Email your Assemblymember about AB 1958 (Kalra) not passing the Assembly Floor!
AB 1958, introduced by Assemblymember Ash Kalra, would have made additional clarifying changes to the procedures for Racial Justice Act (RJA) claims. It will do three things: 1) remove procedural barriers that have blocked disparity claims, 2) make it clear that the law applies to plea bargains, and 3) make it clear that the prosecution must hand over evidence in the hands of law enforcement. On Thursday, May 20th, 2026, AB 1958 was held on the Assembly Floor— it will not be moving forward
Take action today: Thank Assemblymembers who supported AB 1958 and express your disappointment to those who failed to support it.
