Katrina Ruiz
Director of Policy and Advocacy
Katrina is the Director of Policy and Advocacy for Initiate Justice. She has spent the last 15 years supporting her community first through grassroots organizing, and then working directly with elected officials to create and sustain community change. Her passion has been to empower, educate and advocate for those most directly impacted by sociopolitical systems of power. She is a graduate of University of California Merced, and California Community College Merced, Katrina was in the Second Cohort Class of the Next Generation Fellowship Program through MILPA and CJCJ, and a trained trainer through the SOUL Program, and a Maddy Institute Scholarship Alumni.
Katrina grew up watching her formerly incarcerated uncle open his doors to anyone in need of hot food or a place to rest, or shower. From him she learned community and support systems were important, and that wraparound support services for the formerly incarcerated were imperative to their success.
